Next Stop - San Francisco

As stated previously, our payment was to leave a favorite book when we left. Because that is what he charges all his friends when they use his studio, there was a plethora of books already in the room. One of the "books" that was left behind was a walking tour of San Francisco. We looked through the cards and decided that we would try to put two of them together to create a circle where we start and end at the studio. WE both figured that the walk wouldn't be too bad because the distance wasn't that great (I think it was a total of about a mile or two). This is a picture of one of the cards that we chose to follow.

We were SOOOOO wrong about it being difficult. It was AWFUL! One to two miles of mostly up hill is not fun, especially when you have three kids, are pregnant, and have problems with your feet and knees.

This is the actual route we took. It is really too bad that we walked the direction we did because we ended up with uphills most of the way. Points A-B, B-C and G-H were downhill; D-E and F-G were straight; C-D, E-F, H-I and I-A were all uphill.

Needless to say, 2.5 miles seemed like so much longer, and the 53 minutes for walking that Google Maps comes up with for length of time to travel is a joke! I think it took us more like 4 hours or more.

Anyways, the tour wasn't a complete waste of time and energy. We started with breakfast at a little diner on Polk St. The waitress there loved our kids and made us feel welcome. We met a San Francisco Firefighter on Green St., and the view of Lombard St. from the top and bottom was amazing! Lombard St. known as the crookedest street, and for good reason, in the tiny one block space, there are 9 or 10 hairpin turns. The road was made that way because the hill is so steep. The girls were excited to be able to go to the Fairmont Hotel. The hotel is the setting for one of the shows that they know of.

The next day, Karla and her family came down to visit. We went to Pier 39 and walked along The Embarcadero before heading over to Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge. We had a grand time.
